One thing we know for sure: that dime plus a buck-fifty will get you a cup of coffee just about anywhere in the continental U.S.! Beyond that, we had to consult the Net for further informationż In Yahoo!'s Coins and Currency category (under Hobbies > Collecting), there are dozens of sites covering the art of coin collecting, plus numerous sub-categories. In the sub-category "Companies" we found Coin Universe, a site that offers a very comprehensive price guide. According to their numbers, your dime could be worth anywhere from $11 to $7700, depending on its condition. (Unless it's absolutely flawless and untouched, it's probably less than $100.)
In search of a second opinion, we did a full-text search for "seated liberty dime" and came across The Tulving Company, a California coin dealer that hosts a document detailing the history of the 1860-1891 Dime. Read the page and you won't find a table of values, but there are some fascinating tidbits nonetheless, plus a bibliography of sources, which gave us an ideaż We checked Amazon.com and found The Complete Guide to Seated Liberty Dimes by Brian Greer. It'll set you back $37 (which could be more than the coin itself is worth) and it's publication date is 1992, so it's doubtful that it would provide a really accurate value, although it might allow you to identify if your
specific coin has any rare features. Of course, for a mere $5 you could pick up the Coin World 1998 Guide to U.S. Coins, Prices & Value Trends.
