Dear Yahoo!:
Where can I find the lyrics to "Kung Fu Fighting," a song from the late '70s?
Suz
Alberta, Canada
Dear Suz:
Of course, we've memorized the lyrics to Carl Douglas's 1974 chart-topping single and could simply recite them for you hereż

Everybody was kung fu fighting
Those cats were fast as lighting
In fact it was a little bit frightening
But they fought with expert timing.

żbut it might be more instructive to point you to sites that specialize in transcribed song lyrics.

The International Lyrics Server is usually a pretty good starting place to search or browse for the words to your favorite tunes. Unfortunately, in the case of "Kung Fu Fighting," the transcription was clearly a little bit suspect ("those jerks were fast as lightning?"), so we simply took a phrase that we thought was right ("those cats were fast as lightning") and entered it into a full-text search engine.

From the search results page, the second site we came across, Todd's Music Page, had a more acceptable transcription of the song. We found the lyrics under his "Nice Decade" collection, which contains songs from the 7-disc Rhino Records compilation Have a Nice Decade. In addition to "Kung Fu Fighting," we found other '70s chestnuts like "Disco Duck" and "Convoy."

From Todd's page, we also clicked on some of his favorite sources and found The Lyrics Library, a site that offers transcripts of thousands of songs,as well as links to a number of other lyrics archives on the Web.
