Dear Yahoo!:
We are about to purchase an Alaskan Malamute puppy and would like to give her a Native American name. Any ideas where to find a comprehensive list of these magical names?

Dear Nigel:
We were pretty sure we'd seen a Yahoo! category with baby name ideas, so we typed "baby names" into the search box. The results returned a number of "category matches." We scoured the results and headed to the Baby Names category. Scrolling down the page for a site with a promising description, we spotted Eponym, which claimed to offer names from around the world.

At Eponym we clicked "name links from regions and cultures," and made our way to North America, where we located links to First Nations People/Native Americans name lists.

Here are a few we can imagine for your malamute: Satinka means "magic dancer," Soso sounds like the whoosh of new snow, and Teyah means precious.

Other sites we explored focused on Cheyenne, Mohawk, and Ojibway names. Some of these names might challenge your pronunciation skills, but names like Ipp, Sappai, and Istahiba resonate with too much beauty to overlook.

Lastly, we checked the Alaskan Malamute FAQ, and learned about the origins, temperament, and physique of this intelligent and sturdy working dog from Alaska's Arctic. There were even specific tips for the care and feeding of Malamutes in Australia -- covering everything but names and rawhide chew toys.
