New U.S. coins are coming out fast and furious. There's a new silver dollar in the works, and yes indeed, there will soon be 50 new quarters, each commemorating a different state. In fact, the new quarters have already begun to appear. You should already be able to spot Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia. However, the collection won't be complete until well into the next millennium, as the coins are being released five per year for the next 10 years. For everything you could possibly want to know about the new two-bit pieces, check out the United States Mint's 50 State Quarters site. You can view the coins that have been released so far, check out the schedule of upcoming
pressings, or even submit your own coin design for one of the upcoming states. For the dedicated collector, the U.S. Mint offers sets of coins for sale, many in attractive commemorative covers. Of course, it's probably more fun to collect the state quarters straight out of circulation. For $25, you can get the official 50 State Quarters Collector's Map, which allows you to place the coins you find in a folding case illustrated with a map of the United States. As we mentioned, you should have no problem finding the new quarters in circulation, but if you're looking for uncirculated or otherwise rare coins, you might check out Yahoo! Auctions, which has hundreds of coins up for grabs in the U.S.
Quarters section (under Coins, Paper Money & Stamps > Coins ).
