Dear Yahoo!:
Where can I find the words to the silly children's songs that I once knew? I'd like to find the words to "Three little kittens that lost their mittens," and a song that starts "Miss Lucy had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell."

Dear Julie:
Have we got a site for you! We found KIDiddles in our Children's Music category. Excited by the description, which claims that KIDiddles "lists the lyrics to over 250 songs for children," we eagerly clicked on the inviting blue link.

There we found Mojo's Musical Mouseum, which offers both alphabetical and subject-based indices of children's songs, as well as a search engine, a "Song of the Week" feature, and -- very cool -- a suggestion-box link called "Looking for Lyrics." Luckily, we didn't have to go looking for lyrics, because the two songs you mentioned are both already listed.

By searching on the word "kittens," we found the official lyrics for "Three Little Kittens," which go a little like this:

Three little kittens,
They lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
Oh, mother dear,
We sadly fear
Our mittens we have lost.

etc. etc.

As for your other request, we remembered the song as "Lulu had a steamboat..." In any case, we decided the best way to go was to enter "steamboat" into the KIDiddles searchbox. Happily, that turned up "A Sailor Went to Sea Sea Sea," complete with lyrics about Helen (not Lucy or Lulu). "Oh, Helen had a steamboat, the steamboat had a bell. When Helen went to heaven..." We're betting you'll remember the rest.
