Dear Yahoo!:
Is there a web site that compiles film critics' lists of the top ten movies of 1999?

Dear Jeff and Sean:
When Yahoo! users in two countries submit the same question on the same day it seems like a compelling reason to locate the answer. We figured that a collection of movie picks was out there, we just needed to know where to look.

We didn't find any clues by searching on "top 10 movies 1999" in Yahoo!'s directory, but when we executed a Yahoo! News search by clicking on the "Related News" button at the top of the "Search Result" page we got lucky. The search turned up stories about top-grossing hits and Roger Ebert's and Janet Maslin's 1999 film favorites. Maybe we were getting warm...

We headed back to Yahoo!'s directory and browsed around the Movies and Film > Reviews category. Under Review Hubs we located the Movie Review Query Engine, a specialized search engine of over 100,000 reviews for more than 10,000 movie titles. We noticed a drop-down menu below the site's search box that offered "precomputed lists" -- including one selection called "*1999 In Review." Without hesitating, we pressed "Go."

On the MRQE's 1999 Summary Page we found links to critics' top picks from Entertainment Weekly, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Toronto Star, Salon.com, and more.

We backtracked to the Best Films subcategory. Clicking around the sites here eventually led us to Reel.com's 1999 Critics Awards Page, which provided even more of what you're after -- top-10 lists from noted film critics including Roger Ebert, Janet Maslin, and others, as well as a summary of the 1999 critics' awards season.
