Dear Yahoo!:
What is the history of the LEGO?
Myron
Laurel, Maryland
Dear Myron:
After a simple Yahoo! search on "legos" returned five matching categories, we decided to visit Recreation > Toys > LEGO. Scanning the list of LEGO-related sub-categories and sites, we clicked on the commercial LEGO category, where we found the impressive LEGO web site listed.

Of course, when we saw the URL -- "http://www.lego.com/" -- we realized we could've simply typed "lego" into the Location (or Address) box in our web browser and we would've been taken straight to the site. Sometimes, this can be a good strategy for finding companies on the Web.

At the site, we headed straight for the "About Us" section and clicked on "History." There, we learned that Kirk Christiansen, master carpenter and joiner, established the LEGO Group in 1932 in the village of Billund, Denmark.

The easy-to-read timeline goes on to explain that the word "LEGO" was formed from the Danish words "LEg" and "GOdt," which translates to "play well." The timeline offers a comprehensive look at the history of the company, from its humble beginnings to its current position as an international toy power.
