Many great players have donned the Yankee pinstripes. Finding out who wore them in the early 60s proved to be a bit of a challenge. We began our foray into arcane baseball information at Yahoo!'s category for the New York Yankees. From there, we went to the official Yankees site, hoping to find official historical information. But after poking around a bit, it was apparent that the site is geared toward present-day fans of Derek Jeter rather than the past exploits of Maris and Mantle.
Strike one. Our next try was the Yahoo! Baseball History category. Since we didn't see a specific mention of the Yankees in the site descriptions, the site with the sunglasses seemed like a good bet. But we couldn't find team histories by season at The Baseball Archive. Strike two. Desperate to foul a couple off and stay in the batter's box, rather than strike out, we landed in the Sabermetrics category. Sabermetrics, in case you're wondering, is "the statistical analysis of baseball data." We clicked on the first link in the category and hit a ringing line drive into the gap. Big Bad Baseball provides all the baseball-related information you could ever want. Under "Statistics," we found our way to the New York Yanks team page, which led us to every team roster in Yankee history, including the '61, '62, and '63 squads that you were looking for.
