Dear Yahoo!:
Which state has the most lighthouses?
Megan
Chicago, Illinois
Dear Megan:
A quick Yahoo! search on "lighthouse" returned several category matches. We chose Architecture > Buildings and Structures > Lighthouses because its scope looked to be the broadest. That turned out to be both a blessing and a curse.

The category offers a list of about 75 sites on the subject of lighthouses. Not sure where to start, we clicked on some sites at random. This led to some interesting reading. PBS's Legendary Lighthouses was particularly impressive, but ultimately didn't provide an answer to your question.

We visited a few more of the listings in the category, but remained unsuccessful until one of the sites offered a link to the United States Coast Guard. There we found a Teacher's Lighthouse Resource and learned that Michigan has seen the construction of 90 lighthouses in its history, the most in the United States, followed closely by Maine with about 80.
