Do not feed the bears! We repeat: Do not feed the bears! Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, let's get down to finding hiking maps. First, we did a Yahoo! search on the term "yellowstone." The top result was an "Inside Yahoo!" match (linking to a product or service offered directly from Yahoo! or a Yahoo! partner). We clicked on the picture of Old Faithful and ended up at the Yellowstone entry in Yahoo! Parks. We noticed a link to "Trail Maps," which took us to the National Park Service's cartographic index. From there, it took us only a couple of clicks to find a pair of Yellowstone maps. The first, in Adobe .pdf format, is very useful, showing the entire park, major roads and landmarks, and close-ups of some important areas. The second, a whopping 1.7 megabyte JPEG file, is just a shaded topographic sketch, not at all useful for hiking. We don't recommend you download it. Hoping for more, we headed back to our original search results and selected the top-listed Yahoo! category, Yellowstone National Park. When we got there, we weren't disappointed. There are literally dozens of sites dedicated to the park and how to enjoy it. Here are a few of the
best: The National Park Service's Official Yellowstone Page - covers every aspect of the park, from history to current conditions. Check the Yellowstone Interactive Map for a guide to the main areas of interest. GORP Yellowstone Travel Guide - this collection of articles and resources offers many different kinds of maps, as well as advice for hikers on the park's 1,000 miles of trails. The Total Yellowstone Page - Wow. Everything you
could possibly want about Yellowstone, from accessibilty information to wolf reports. We highly recommend their hiking and maps directories. Good luck. Happy hiking. And remember: Don't feed the bears!
