We began with a Yahoo! search on "nuclear weapons," which led us to a useful Yahoo!'s Full Coverage page on the subject. After browsing the headlines, we scrolled down to Related Web Sites and clicked off to "The Bomb," part of CNN's Cold War Experience. Again we scrolled, first to Nuclear Deployment, and eventually to a page called Nuclear Weapons: Who Has What? To verify our findings, we browsed out way to Yahoo!'s Science > Energy > Nuclear category, and its Web Directories sub-category. On the front page of The Nuclear Files there's a list of the countries that have nuclear weapons stockpiles, alongside a list of countries that have performed weapons tests over the last five years. Apparently, Russia, the United States, France, China, Great Britain, Israel, Pakistan, and India all have stockpiles. And possibly Iran. Of course, there's a fair amount of secrecy and double talk about exactly who has what capabilities. Finally, we entered "nuclear weapon"
into a search engine. That led us to Nuclear Weapons and Arsenals, a site that outlines the nuclear status of different countries. Here we learned that quite a few nations have stopped their nuclear programs, and a handful of countries are considered capable of, but aren't pursuing a nuclear weapons program. If all this talk of nuclear armageddon worries you, check out the Doomsday Clock to get an idea of how close we have come to nuclear war. In 1984, the clock was at three minutes to midnight, but these days we are living nine minutes away, so take a deep breath and enjoy Tom Lehrer's satirical 1965 song, "Who's Next?"
