Dear Yahoo!:
Where can I learn how to barbecue?
Smoke Gets in My Eyes
Dear Smoke:
Whether you spell it "barbecue" or "barbeque," a search of Yahoo! leads to a good number of matches. We browsed through the results and selected the Food and Drink > Types of Foods > Barbecue path. Noticing the sunglasses (sunglasses) next to it, we chose Barbecue'n on the Internet, which claims to be "the leading edge in outdoor cooking."

In the Beginner's Corner, we learned the difference between grilling (cooking directly over high heat and turning frequently) and smoking (cooking with low, indirect heat, over a longer period of time). Barbecuing is a type of outdoor cooking that falls somewhere between the two and is generally practiced on a gas, charcoal, or electric grilling device.

From Yahoo!'s listing page, we moved to the BBQ Mailing List Survival Guide and Smoke-Cooking FAQ, a compendium of BBQ principles, procedures, equipment, and recipes, hosted by Dan Gill, designer of an awe-inspiring brick indoor pit, The Ethyl A. Pigg Memorial Cooker.

While we saw a lot of relevant and interesting sites, for simple step-by-step grilling instructions, you might just want to print out eHow's instructions for how to host a barbecue, prepare coals, grill a steak, and finally clean a barbecue grill.

Once you get the hang of grilling or BBQing, visit web sites with barbecue recipes, which have been compiled from around the Internet. And make sure you have a fire extinguisher close at hand, for safety's sake.
