Dear Yahoo!:
In CBS's Survivor, what happens when there are only two contestants left?
Terry
Waterton, South Dakota
Dear Terry:
Your question no doubt refers to the wildly popular television show that chronicles the misadventures of 16 castaways as they band together to survive on a remote island in the South China Sea. It's something like a cross between Gilligan's Island and MTV's Real World with a twist: the castaways are also contestants, and each one must "survive" not only the island but also the group.

At the end of each week's show, the "tribe" convenes to vote one of their ranks off the island. It's voyeurism and democracy at its best; a secret ballot determines who must pack their bags and leave.

This works when you have lots of people and therefore lots of votes; but, what about when only two people remain? A terrible accident involving a coconut? A bamboo raft that goes missing at sea in the middle of the night? Um, no. "At that point, the seven most recently eliminated castaways will return to form the final tribal council and decide who will be the final survivor, the winner of $1,000,000!"

We found the answer by visiting the official CBS.com Survivor web site, which we located by searching on the show's title in Yahoo!. The site includes all kinds of goodies, including survivor profiles, last words from castaways voted off the island, polls, upcoming previews, and much more.

We were a little surprised by how difficult it was to find your answer there. We assumed you weren't the only person to ask, so we started at the FAQ section -- which, itself, wasn't that easy to find. (The site lacks an index or table of contents.) No luck there. After some fruitless casting about, we clicked on the Concept link and finally found your answer.

The lesson of this episode? As more and more of the world goes online, look for "official" sites to answer the questions a twenty-second sound clip can't. And don't give up too easily.
