Dear Yahoo!:
Are there web sites for writing and storing diaries online?
Paulino
Toronto, Canada
Dear Paulino:
Yes! Online diaries have become absurdly popular over the past few years -- witness the length of our Online Journals and Diaries category. From Serbian filmmakers to Singaporean teenagers to London accountants, thousands of people are baring their souls on the Internet on a daily basis. Naturally, several web rings and directories have sprouted up. Here are a couple of standouts:

My Dear Diary lets you create and maintain your own online journal. Setting up a diary is a cinch, and you're free to post whenever the muse moves you. You're also invited to browse other people's journals, since any online journal is by definition public. A weekly update features recent choice quotes, poems, and hot discussion topics.

The Open Diary, another popular journal hub, currently hosts over 150,000 online diaries from 76 countries. The diaries are browseable by country or age, so you can meet like-minded scribes. And the front page features choice random excerpts: "Do you know what drives me insane? Well a lot of things really, top of the list is when people are convinced that they know you...."

Now why would we think we know you, WestSideBaby?
