Dear Yahoo!:
How can I become a contestant on Survivor?
Timothy
Warner Robins, Georgia
Dear Timothy:
Since Survivor II: The Australian Outback ended on May 3, 2001, fans like yourself have been clamoring to become one of the next group of 16 castaways.

To find the application process, we went to the Yahoo! search box and entered "survivor." We picked an "Inside Yahoo! Match" -- Yahoo! TV's coverage of Survivor II. We scrolled down the page and quickly found a link titled CBS: Survivor Casting Call. This page from the official web site has everything you'd ever want to know about applying to be on the next Survivor.

According to the Casting Call Eligibility Rules, contestants must be 21 years old or older, U.S. citizens, and in excellent physical and mental health. In addition, a good survivor is:

  • Strong-willed
  • Outgoing
  • Adventurous
  • Physically and mentally adept
  • Adaptable to new environments
Having an interesting lifestyle, background, or personality doesn't hurt either, apparently.

If you think you qualify, you'll have to submit a three-minute videotape of yourself saying who are you and why you would make the ultimate survivor. (This video becomes the property of CBS, so even if you're not chosen to be on the show, your audition tape could still get on air -- thus giving you 15 minutes of fame without having to eat bugs!) You'll also need to send a photocopy of your U.S. passport, one passport-sized photo, and a completed application form.

Unfortunately, applications for Survivor III were due on April 13, 2001. But there's undoubtedly a Survivor IV in the works, so check back on CBS.com in a few months!
