Your best bet is to visit the official site of the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. The tickets section offers seats for almost every event. Browse the schedule, check out hotel packages, and order online. Despite getting off to a shaky start, next year's Winter Olympics promise to be an extravaganza of exotic snow-covered sports: alpine skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, luge, skeleton, and the new sport on the block, curling. What is curling, you ask? While a relative newcomer
to the Olympics (it was made an official sport in 1998), curling began in Scotland during the 16th century. It's been referred to as "chess on ice" -- two teams of four players each take turns pushing a 42-pound stone towards a series of concentric circles. The closer you get to the center of the circle, the more points you score. Needless to say, there's plenty of strategy involved, with lots of shouting directions and scrubbing of ice as well. So reserve your tickets soon and make sure to check out the curling.
