Ah, Cricket, we hardly knew ye! The Plymouth Cricket was launched in 1971, sold poorly for two years, and was summarily shelved in 1973. You can read the story of its short, brutal life at AllPar.Com, a fantastic auto enthusiast site dedicated to Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth rides. The Cricket, manufactured in England as the Hillman Avenger, was a sporty four door that looked like a cross between a Mustang and a Pinto. Unfortunately, the gas-guzzling roadster suffered from "poor workmanship," and was finished off by the first fuel crisis of 1973. But as with any used car in the known
universe, it has a fan site. If you're looking to buy one, check the message boards at the Dodge Arrow Reference Page. (Dodge, a division of Chrysler/Plymouth, marketed the car as an Arrow in Canada). And this great Used Car Guide gives you a pretty nice overview of Doomed Cars of the Seventies.
