Dear Yahoo!:
Who won the most Nobel Prizes?
Martina
Lipik, Croatia
Dear Martina:
We found your answer on the useful Nobel Prize Internet Archive, a site listed in the Yahoo! Nobel Foundation category.

The Archive's Double Nobel section lists all the laureates who have been awarded a Nobel more than once. It's a pretty short list! That's where we discovered that the International Committee of the Red Cross has won the most Nobel Prizes. The Red Cross received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1917, 1944, and 1963.

The only other people or organizations that have received more than one Nobel Prize are Marie Sklodowska Curie (for physics in 1903 and chemistry in 1911), Linus Pauling (for chemistry in 1954 and peace in 1962), John Bardeen (for physics in 1956 and 1972), Frederick Sanger (for chemistry in 1958 and 1980), and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (for peace in 1954 and 1981). Marie Curie was not only the first person to win two Nobel Prizes; she was also the first woman ever to be honored with a Nobel.

We double-checked our facts on the official web site and used the laureate search feature to confirm each prize winner.
