Dear Yahoo!:
What is the formal title for the wife of the vice president?
Stephen
Malverne, New York
Dear Stephen:
Aside from "the wife of the vice president," we didn't know what to call the woman married to the second most powerful man in Washington, D.C., so we turned to the Web. A well-targeted search on "wife vice president title" led us to your answer fairly quickly.

The first search result returned was a page from the web site of VicePresidents.com. The page didn't provide the information we were looking for, but we figured it had to be somewhere on a site with a name like that. At the top of the page, we noticed a link titled "Endless Facts." That seemed like a good bet, so we clicked on it and were presented with all manner of facts about this position. We crossed our fingers and scanned the page.

Alas, at the very bottom of the page, we found your answer -- there is no official designation for the wife of the vice president. The answer was part of a poll asking readers to vote on a title for the position. The top choice was "The Second Lady," followed by Mrs. _____, then "Mrs. Vice President," and finally, 19% of those polled felt she did not merit an official title.

So there you have it. Feel free to call her what you will (within reason, of course).
