Dear Yahoo!:
Is Jenny Craig a real person or just the name of a weight loss program?

Dear Skip:

Though we couldn't find any biographical details about her at the company site, Jenny Craig is indeed a real person. Ms. Craig hails from Louisiana, and started her weight-loss company with her husband Sid in Australia in the mid-1980s. She was 50 years old at the time.

You can read more about her in her book, The Jenny Craig Story. Or just peruse a few self-empowering excerpts from the introduction. For example, "if a little Cajun girl with no college degree can build a company that has more than 600 locations worldwide, with revenues of more than $350 million annually, just imagine what you can accomplish!" Of course, her husband Sid's business acumen may have had more than a little influence on the company's success.

A Yahoo! Image Search reveals that Ms. Craig has reddish brown hair, and a nice smile. A Yahoo! News Search reveals that she and her and her husband Sid own a very successful race horse named Candy Ride. Ms. Craig has also been quite generous to the University of San Diego.

According to the official site for Jenny Craig, Inc., the American weight-loss industry is worth roughly $40 billion. The Jenny Craig program involves pre-packaged meals and counseling sessions. You can read a diverse array of opinions about the program at Epinions.
