Dear Yahoo!:
Are the old couples who appear between the scenes in "When Harry met Sally" real couples?
Levana

Dear Levana:

Widely hailed as a landmark romantic comedy, When Harry Met Sally explored the nuts and bolts of relationships, and blew the top off some historically hush-hush topics. It also featured many memorable moments, including Sally's "acting job" at the diner, Harry's thoughts on coed friendships, and a series of seemingly real couples recounting how they met and remained in love for decades.

We searched for these couples in the film's credits and were surprised to learn many of them are actually seasoned actors. Connie Sawyer (from "documentary couple #1"), has been appearing in movies since the '60s. The late Al Christy (couple #3) played the sheriff in In Cold Blood and Donna Hardy (couple #5) had roles in action films Universal Soldier and The Running Man.

For those who were fooled, we hold the creative genius of the movie's writer, Nora Ephron, responsible. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay for the movie. And while it would have been neat if couple #6's story about the "willage" were true, we're happy with the way things turned out for Harry and Sally.
