From alcohol ("secret desires") to zoos ("where your urges and instincts reside"), every dream symbol has an interpretation. Like legions of psychotherapists before them (Sigmund Freud, anyone?), a slew of dictionaries are just waiting to fill you in. However, the interpretations vary, and the answers are often vague and dissatisfying. Nonetheless, we decided to take a Web tour. A friend recently dreamed of having his trusty Dodge Stratus stolen, so we hijacked that for a test drive. Dream Mood offers a lengthy description of automobiles
in dreams, with various meanings ascribed to driving, parking, and riding shotgun. We were startled to read that car theft "indicates ... being stripped of your identity." Things also seemed dire over at Anael.org, where they bark: "Car, driving one and suddenly turned off: spiritual danger." Yikes. Sleeps.com, however, says that automobiles simply represent your direction in life. Dream-land's dictionary informed us that the auto "stands for your current actions." Hmm, OK. We ended our excursion with Petrix.com, another blunt one. Their
entry states: "Car: Personal power. Ego." Well, personal power isn't bad. And neither are these answers, though they don't offer much real insight. For that, you may have to log off and make an appointment with a professional. Whether you choose a follower of Dr. Freud is up to you.
