Dear Yahoo!:
Where in New York did the Jeffersons live?
Gordon
Dear Gordon:
Before "Sex and the City" and "Seinfeld" ruled New York, "The Jeffersons" got their turn at bat. The CBS sitcom (1975-1985) revolved around a newly wealthy African American family, led by the perpetually perturbed George Jefferson.

We thought we'd have a devil of a time tracking down the Jefferson's mailing address, but we found it without much trouble. (Apparently we're better at this than we thought.) According to several sites, the Jeffersons lived in a building called "Colby East." The building that appears in the show's intro is located at 185 East 85th Street in Manhattan. Hence the theme song, "Moving on up, to the East Side."

Besides boasting one of the catchiest tunes in sitcom history, "The Jeffersons" was notable for its depiction of an upwardly mobile African American family and the inclusion of an interracial couple among its cast. The Jeffersons was actually a spinoff of "All in the Family," another very popular (and groundbreaking) sitcom from back in the day.

And, not that you asked, but just in case you want to know, the show's theme was composed by Ja'net Dubois and Jeff Barry. We don't dance, but when we hear their tune, we come close. Ain't nothing wrong with that, is there?
