We were looking forward to finding you a nice, simple answer, but as we soon learned, this one's not as straightforward as you might expect. According to Wikipedia (we know, we know -- not always the most accurate source), with 65 records to his name, Swiss ball-juggler Paul Sahli is "the most-record-holding living person as per the Guinness World Records Book." Sahli's web site echoes this claim, although it puts the count at 64 world records. But on the actual Guinness site, the honor goes to one Ashrita Furman of Brooklyn, New York. Unfortunately, Guinness neglects to state exactly how many
records Furman holds, and a search of the site turned up only 11, among them Most Hopscotch Games in 24 Hours (434) and Most Candles on a Cake (27,413). Normally we'd defer to Guinness, but the omission of specific details and a date on the claim is troubling. And we found a number of sources that named Sir Paul McCartney as the person with the most world records. So what are we to make of all these conflicting claims? What it comes down to is this: We don't know who holds the most world records. But let us offer you this
consolation prize -- our nomination for the most amusing world record holder, Jim Mouth. Mr. Mouth is the "self proclaimed world record holder of the most world records" and has set such notable ones as smoking the most cigarettes at once, cramming the most people in one bed, and various other ill-advised "stuffing" records.
