"Dogs Playing Poker" is one of the world's most famous paintings. Although not exactly known as a great work of art, the painting's "corny but cool" quality has given it a kind of eternal fame. If only the same were true for its creator... There are actually nine original versions of "Dogs Playing Poker." All were painted by the same man, C.M Coolidge. DogsPlayingPoker.org features a rather exhaustive biography full of interesting details. We were surprised to learn Coolidge was "an established artist even before he painted anything
involving dogs and poker." According to this article from CNN, Coolidge's works were commissioned by a Minnesota advertising firm. Later, Coolidge turned his dog paintings into posters, calendars, and prints. He was paid for his efforts, but the money he earned was small potatoes compared to the $590,000 two of his works brought at auction in 2005.
