Dear Yahoo!:
Whatever happened to the kid who starred in "A Christmas Story"?
Nancy
Los Gatos, California
Dear Nancy:
Ralphie Parker's quest for "an official Red Ryder carbine-action 200-shot range model air rifle" is truly the stuff of legend. Peter Billingsley played Ralphie, and although he never landed another role quite so memorable, he's still a Hollywood player.

Following "A Christmas Story" (which wasn't a huge success when it was first released), Billingsley went on to star in several forgettable films including "The Dirt Bike Kid" and "Russkies." As his acting career slowed, the cute kid with the glasses began to take an interest in movies from the other side of the camera.

Avoiding the fate that befell so many child stars, Billingsley transitioned rather easily into his new career in film production. As "Peter Michaelsen," Billingsley contributed to several mid-'90s flicks. We're not sure why he used the alias, but he eventually went back to using his real name. In recent years, Billingsley has worked on several films with good friend Jon Favreau, including "Elf," "Zathura," and "The Break-Up" -- all major Hollywood releases.

And yet, for all his grown-up success, Billingsley will always be remembered for his iconic performance in "A Christmas Story." And that's understandable -- the film is both hilarious and heartfelt. But mostly it's hilarious.
