Your best bet is to get on friendly terms with your state's representatives or senators ¿ and quickly. They hold the tickets (literally) to the presidential inauguration ceremony scheduled to take place January 20, 2005. All Congress members receive an allotment of tickets to the official swearing-in ceremony that they can distribute to the public at their discretion. During the ceremony, the new president takes the 35-word oath of office and generally gives an inaugural address.
A parade usually follows the ceremony, and later in the evening, the inaugural balls begin. Both the parade and balls require those hard-to-come-by scraps of paper for admission. In addition to receiving tickets to the ceremony, Congress members are given the opportunity to purchase a limited number of tickets to one of the many balls. But for the many other official events that celebrate the inauguration, they, like you, are on their own. If befriending a local legislator is out of the question, you can take your chances and try one of the web sites that claims to sell tickets to the event.
